Tips for Successful School Meetings – Part 2

In Tips for Successful School Meetings, Part 2, the vlog explains how different children may need different approaches when it comes to learning. Difficulty in school can be very stressful for both parents and children and, if not addressed, sometimes lead to unfavorable outcomes. In the second episode of Different Children, Different Approach, Jenn Werden, Parent Advocate with The Florida Center FASD clinic, and Amy Weinberger, Co-founder of the Lean on Me Project with NAMI, share the last two guidelines for successful school meetings.

Jenn is a parent navigating her own child’s special education requirements. She received coaching from Amy and learned how to come to the school meeting prepared to advocate for her son’s needs. Now Jenn has a good relationship with the school and is able to work with them to accommodate her son’s learning. In this episode, she shares some stories about how she used Amy’s guidelines in school meetings.

With their new vlog, Jenn and Amy hope to educate and empower parents and caregivers of children with delays, disabilities, and mental health challenges on strategies for advocating for their child’s learning and working with the school to help them reach their full potential. When parents know how to best approach the issues in the classroom, they can come to the table as a part of the team.

Here are the last two guidelines for incredibly successful school meetings:
